Does Saffron Extract Actually Work?
When we want to lose weight we can find it difficult. Food can become an obsession and snacking and secret eating can be a problem. Saffron is of course recognizable in many households as an expensive spice often used in cooking and particularly middle eastern dishes. It is actually a particular strain of the crocus flower and the stamens are collected by hand which is why it is so expensive. Saffron extract is not the sort found in your kitchen cupboard but an extract from the crocus flower and that is known as satiere saffron extract which is thought to responsible in increasing those serotonin levels and indirectly leading to diminished hunger pangs and cravings.
The link between saffron extract and an increase in serotonin levels does seem to be supported by clinical research and there are other benefits closely related to weight gain which have also seen some benefit from saffron extract. Some of those are more obvious than others but include increased energy levels and mood. So if you feel low or depressed then this can help. It may well help in relieving the symptoms of PMS and there is some suggestion that it has anti-inflammatory properties as well. Generally speaking anything which involves mood swings may be stabilized with the help of this natural alternative.
It is of course important to do your research and look at the various alternatives available. Like a lot of weight loss supplements it's not an overnight cure but there is some evidence that it can control those uncontrollable hunger urges.
